Depending on which website you check, (i.e. Amazon or Play.com) )who have January & February respectively for the release date there is a new 2cd compilation which also features some of Dusty's later recordings.
The title is highly original "Gold", that was used two years ago on an American release, still it's good to see another release from our girl.

This looks really nice....and I like the cover photo too.
The track-listing is quite 'strange'...all the single-releases from I Only Want To Be With You up to What's It Gonna Be are sequenced chronologically...then it breaks for album tracks. Good selection though.

Hi everyone. I'm Wayne and I'm new to these boards. I work (whenever I can) as a music consultant for record companies. I am delighted to tell you that my most recent project is the upcoming 2-CD Dusty Springfield Gold which will be released by Universal UK on March 3rd.
There are many Dusty collections but I wanted to do one that reflected Dusty's singles success in both the UK and the USA. Unfortunately, a lot of material from the 70's and 80's was unavailable due to licensing issues. That is why there is nothing from Cameo for example. The main point of this compilation is to recreate what it would have been like if you collected Dusty's US and UK 45's in the 60's and early 70's which is why the original Mono versions have been used wherever possible. Disc One features a few album tracks that I believe deserve to be represented. Although many of the mono mixes recently turned up on Classics & Collectibles, Complete A & B Sides and the UK deluxe Dusty In Memphis, they have never been chronologised together before. The Mono versions of Guess Who, Live It Up and If You Go Away are also here, making their CD debut.
Disc Two largely covers her USA Atlantic singles. I Believe In You (Dusty's final Atlantic A-side) makes it's UK CD debut here. The collection ends with all of Dusty's hits from Reputation and A Very Fine Love. I am glad to say that I am happy with the sound quality on the release.
Anyway, I hope you have found my waffling interesting and I hope you enjoy the CD, should you choose to buy it. Please tell everyone on all of the other Dusty websites - there are so many! If you buy it online, be aware that there was a USA release in the same Universal Gold series that has 28 tracks. This is not the same release.

Wayne, I'm thrilled that you have come on to the DSN to give us this wonderful insight into the rationale behind your latest project. Just as well we had already highlighted its release otherwise I might just have been tempted to seek out some advertising fees from you so as we could donate some monies to The Royal Marsden    ......you'll get to know me Wayne, I'm a cheeky little chappy (chappess really! ).
Seriously though, it is always interesting to read the logic behind such a compilation. As you will be so aware, there have been many, and it is often impossible to glean why something has been released with a particular content - also interesting to read why there are certain omissions e.g from Cameo (one of my favourite albums as it happens but hey, that won't stop me buying the CD's associated with this project of yours. )
Btw, I think you'll find that most of the main Dusty boards have already cottoned on to the release but certainly we will do our bit of 'networking'............which leads me on to something you might care to do as well? You are already of course a Dusty Springfield Networker! I will be so bold as to divert your attention to this thread! Happy Networking Musicat and the very best of luck with your project

Btw, I do so hope you are voting for Katy Setterfield on the BBC 1's 'The One and Only' Saturday evening show? It could well be that Katy may help sales of this latest venture of yours - certainly since her involvement with the show as a Dusty tribute act, one or two of Dusty's albums have done much better in the Amazon Adult Contemporary charts! Last week for a while she was at no 1 and no 2. Good timing for you I think you may find - the final is next Saturday and currently Katy is the favourite to win!

Lol Linda. Good point! I hope this one is different enough for longtime fans to be interested. Having said that, what excites me about it is that when people who aren't experts like us pick it up, they will hear Dusty's singles as they actually sounded at the time instead of the stereo mixes that are usually about. I remember when I first heard Little By Little and In The Middle Of Nowhere. I didn't especially like them. When I eventually heard the Mono versions it suddenly all made sense. Because Gold is a very successful mainline series, I hope that new fans enjoy the songs more than they might have done otherwise. Those scratchy Mono mixes have an intensity to them that you can't beat!

I definitely agree about the difference in some of the Mono versions, they just have a whole different, better sound I'm really looking forward to hearing this
Also, I'm glad 'I Wish That Love Would Last' is included as this one doesn't make many compilations..

Just spotted the latest developments on this thread.
It's great to have such an insider on the boards and I always wondered about the 70s stuff. Cameo is such a beautiful album! It's a shame that many tracks have licensing issues these days. Reminds me of Janis Joplin - every year there is another Platinum compilation of Pearl with another bonus track on it - how many copies of those albums will one have to buy until the Joplin family has released all hidden tracks?
Anyway - thanks so much for explaining the background of this compilation, Wayne! I will order a copy. Maybe you can give me an autograph on it?

Thanks, everyone. Why is it called Gold? Time for me to waffle again! Here goes ...
As we all know, everything is about branding these days. Universal (USA) decided to launch a series called Gold a few years back. What this meant was that they could market a branded series for all of their catalogue artists in a simple 2-CD chronological format. The idea is that if you buy one and enjoy it, you may be more likely to choose that series when you see another artist of interest in it.
Why are there two Dusty ones?
In the USA, the retail laws are quite strange. If they put out a forty track compilation, they have to charge more for it than a thirty track compilation. In the case of the USA Dusty Springfield Gold there were only 28 tracks on it so that they could sell it quite cheaply and hopefully interest the most casual of buyers. Although Universal UK often release the same edition, I guess they felt that it wasn't appropriate in this case. We don't have any retail laws governing how many tracks there are on a CD and Dusty had way too many hits here that were not covered on the US release.
I have wanted to do a Dusty 2-CD for ages and I realised that suggesting it for the Gold series meant that it was more likely to happen. They released three different Dusty 2-CD compilation within one year in recent times so you can see why I thought that another would be a hard sell! Thankfully they agreed to let me do a new one for the Gold series. To me, the most important aspect of that is how many new fans it might create when they see it on the shelves and decide to take a chance on it because they have a few others in the series that they enjoyed. That said, I also had the fans in mind and made sure it was different enough to previous releases by having all those Mono mixes and covering the Atlantic material more thoroughly than usual. I too love the mono recordings--so I shall buy this CD.
I love the cover you have chosen Wayne and thinks its a real eye catcher. If Katy wins you will have timed this release so well
So tell us your all time favourite tracks on Side 1 and then side 2.
