Janie Thanks for the nice comments. The Anne Murray Show was recorded in October 1984, according to the notes filed with all the negatives. Dusty was quite into getting full value out of her costumes: She wore the same outfit on Wogan to promote Sometimes Like Butterflies! Tony xx |

Great pictures everyone!.....I particularly like the one above, when I see Dusty as stunning as that picture it makes me wonder why any cosmetic company didn't ask her to model for them.

Mark I agree with your comment. What I have always found amazing is that even before her 'mishap' (we won't go there) requiring cosmetic surgery, she went and had her nose done! She simply did not cotton on to the fact that she had looks. On, I think the South Bank Show that Melvyn Bragg did on her, Vicki Wickham commented on the fact that Dusty was not a pretty girl and that was one of the reasons behind some insecurities (it may have been another show, I've seen so many bits and pieces I get all muddled up). I for one don't agree with Ms Wickham on that one! Janie xx |

Think I've read somewhere that she had her first face-lifting when she was 27! ... And that that was common in show biz back then. Well, when do they start nowadays, one might ask...

Now what year would she have been 27 in...1966. No, I don't think so Corinna - if she did I think she should have got some money back as I'm sure that the obsessive fan I was at that time (did I say at THAT time??!!) I would have noticed. The first occasion when I really saw a difference was when she came home in the 70's. I stand to be corrected of course!!

Thankyou for all the fab pics.
I'd be very surprised if Dusty had a face-lift at 27yrs old.
It's commonplace now, but was very rare, back then...

I'm wondering if we're getting a little confused about these 'nose-jobs', as I recall Cilla Black had a 'nose-job' circa 1970, and I've just checked and 'r' Cilla would have been 27 in May of that year.
Cilla has a very outgoing personality (as Dusty herself has said) and she's made light of her 'fix' on several occasions, whereas I would have thought Dusty would have remained quiet about any 'alterations'.
I have previously read that nosejobs are not exactly healthy as they weaken the bone/muscle structure of the nasal part of the nose.....so I certainly wouldn't have one even if I could afford it!
Love Mark.....proud of his big Roman nose!! x x |

I could be wrong about the exact age... Just remember that I thought it was *really* young, and that she'd hardly needed it!
And did Ms. Wickham say that Dusty was "not a pretty girl"? Not nice.

Dear Corinna
Just a quick one to verify what Ms Wickham did indeed say...I whizzed through the SouthBank Show tape and found the quotes. They were made in the context of how/why her (Dusty's) image developed. There are two quotes, one from Vicki Wickham and one from Pat Rhodes. I'll leave you to ruminate on them..
VW: 'I think for Dusty, she wasn't a great looking girl and I think she literally looked in the mirror and said 'OK, what can I do about this?' She totally reinvented herself.'
PR: 'I think Dusty was always hiding behind makeup because she never realised how good she was.'
Speaks volumes!

Thanks for the lovely pics everybody! Here is one I got myself for Christmas. Tee hee. The drum in the background has 'Tremeloes' on it, so I think this was taken during the 1964 tour. Anyone that knows for sure, please clue us in.
 luv,

Hi Everyone
Here's one more rare pic of Dusty. I took this one at the Press launch for Sometimes Like Butterflies at the Hippodrome. This particular shot has never seen the light of day before.

Cheers

I have to say that that photograph is superb. It has captured an almost childlike quality about her. That is certainly one of the best photos I've seen from that time - probably because she wasn't focusing on the camera and looks very natural.
Thank you once again

Thanks. You're welcome. Just wanted to share something unique with the new community.
She hated having her picture taken from her left, but even she liked this one!
