Karl I agree that I am glad these videos do exist :). I still wish the BBC would make a video of all "The One and Only" programmes, but unfortunately that doesn't look like it will happen :( Katy has told me both in Vegas and on Dusty Day that she does not consider herself an impersonator of Dusty, but someone who is paying tribute to Dusty as a huge fan herself, so I'm sure that is why she always adds a little bit of herself into her performances.
Just another comment about Katy's wigs, I wonder if the one she wore on The One and Only is property of the BBC, same goes for the one she wore at the Imperial Palace in Vegas? Does anyone know?

Janie a friend of a friend took the picture of Katy & me and he hit the zoom button in error that's why it's so close. I intended asking Katy if we could take another when the ***%%%$$$ camera started flashing "change the batteries". It always does that at special events!!!!!!
There's no truth in the rumour that it was two Superstars vying for the camera and at the crucial moment I nudged Katy out the way!!!! |

Hello All,
Thanks Karl and Janie for the pics.....Karl definitely looks like he is pleased to be in the photo!
In this thread some people have made comment that it appears Katy has studied/improved on her movements/hand movements, with regard to Dusty.
As a person who knows nothing about how one performs on stage, I got thinking about Dusty's movements/hand movements in the "old" film footage.
My question is, I wonder if Dusty's movements/hand movements came naturally to her or did she have to practice and perfect her "routine"?
Regards, Geoff |

As I understand it from talking at length with Simon Bell (Simon was one of Dusty's backing singers and long time friend of hers', Geoff), most of what Dusty did on stage was unchoreographed i.e. it was just 'what she did'. Clearly some of the dance routines would have needed to be rehearsed but I guess we can say she was a natural! .
As a matter of interest, what many have observed was that in later years it looked as if Dusty had to remember how 'to be' Dusty Springfield again on stage and those very hand movements/arm flinging exercises actually ended up looking a little more staged.

Somehow Geoff I think the movements came naturally to Dusty, Katy does well but the movements are still not always as perfect as Dusty's.
However in Katy's defence I have to say on Dusty's faster numbers Katy had Dusty's little dance spot on! |

Rather reminds me of the time I met Simone Lahbib - took a real close up of her but had accidentally flicked the timer. The photo I got ended up being the side of a piece of furniture. Fortunately though, I did get the shot I wanted - I don't suppose anyone would like to see it ? I've only posted it on the site about three hundred times already .
AND btw Karl - I do believe in crucial moments !

Fantastic pics Karl- and thanks to Janie for posting them .
Talking about Dusty's hand movements/gestures, (and I think I may have asked this before ) didn't it also occur from the times where Dusty would sometimes write lyrics on her arms? I think I saw Lulu comment about it on a clip at some point.
Love whoever posted the 'Quiet Please...' on Youtube- Great to hear Katy ...I wonder who the clip belongs too? Is it one of our fellow memebers?

IMHO, I really think that all performances should be put on video. We have the technology why not use it?
As for Dusty writing lyrics on her hands and arms, to the best of my knowledge I don't think this theory was ever proven to be true? Gee that might be a good question for Simon or Douggie? In my picture of Dusty taken at the Grande Finale taken inches away from her while she was taking her bows, there clearly is nothing written on her hands or arms.

| Regarding Dusty's hand movements, the first time I met her I asked if she did the hand movements in the recording studio and she said she had been known to but most of the time she was holding on to her headhphones. |

I would guess that most of Dusty's movements did come to her naturally. Although each time she sang a song her movements were similar, they never were exactly the same either. If the were staged, you would think they would be the same.

Yeah, I reckon a lot of it was staged in the later years, but maybe not so much in the beginning.

Katy's 'local' gig .
http://www.bucksfreepress.co.uk/news/3768836.Dusty___It_was_everything_I_d_hoped_for_/
I have to say the picture looks like it was taken from 'An Audience With Katy Setterfield' from earlier in the year. I may be wrong but it looks like it .
Dusty: "It was everything I'd hoped for"
Friday 17th October 2008
By Andy Carswell
HIGH Wycombe’s version of Dusty Springfield said last night’s performance at the Swan Theatre was “everything I’d hoped for”.
Katy Setterfield sung to a full house in her home town as part of a nationwide tour, and said it was “up there with the best”.
The winner of BBC talent show ‘The One And Only’ spoke to the Bucks Free Press today while travelling to her next venue, St George’s Concert Hall in Bradford.
The 38-year-old from Terriers said: “It was absolutely amazing. The audience were fantastic, it was such a great atmosphere. It was everything I’d hoped for.”
Katy said she was enjoying her tour of Britain more than the three months she spent in glitzy Las Vegas as a result of winning ‘The One and Only’.
“The whole thing is better, it’s more of a show and I’m getting a lot more out of it,” she said. “It’s a lot harder work but it’s much more satisfying.
“Having my own show was great, it was up there with the best. It was great to see so many friends and family there as well. ”

I'm glad Katy is enjoying her tour, you can see when she's onstage that she is.
I hope she enjoys a long rest when it's finished! |
