Nothing to do with the ice-cream

Some new (to me) photos of Dusty from the Magnum website, taken by photographer Ian Berry in 1968 in Manchester. I've had a quick glance at the 'Bible' - "THe Complete Dusty Springfield" by Paul Howes and if the captions on the photos are correct then they were possibly taken in October '68 not long after Dusty came back from the U.S. where she had been recording "..In Memphis".

I've added the captions that are included with the shots on the website;

England. Manchester. Singer Dusty Springfield giving a performance. 1968

England. Manchester. Singer Dusty Springfield in full flow. 1968

England. Manchester. Singer Dusty Springfield thanks the audience after a performance. 1968

England. Manchester. Visitors to singer Dusty Springfield's dressing room enjoy a glass of champagne after the show. 1968

These are new to me, Paul! Thanks for posting them.

Looks like she's progressively wilting throughout the pictures... LOL

The first one is my favourite of the bunch.

I'm glad everyone likes the photos. it would be nice to have them a bit bigger...

If you look closely in the 5th picture of Dusty sitting in her dressing-room...you can see all the promotional photos at her feet (I guess for her to sign and give to fans), they have the photo of Dusty from the same session that the cover-shot for the U.S. version "Dusty In Memphis" lp came from.

It's nice to see Dusty in both on-stage and off-stage moments...she lookks so shattered in the last shot!

I can just see the top of my head and top of my bass guitar in the second picture. It was forty years ago and my hair was dark then and I had some. Now it's grey and getting thinner. Derek Wadsworth is on the trombone not sure but it could be Derek Andrews on trumpet next to him..

Great pictures.

Thanks Douggie

Talking of Derek Wandsworth, he came to Dusty Day this year Douggie, and is looking very well.

He spoke about Dusty.

Do you still keep in touch with him and other band members??

Hi Carole
I did see him in a couple of the pictures. He does look well! I try to keep in touch with as many of the guys as I can.
When I come to Britain I normally stay with Derek and Patsy. We always used to called him Waddy. A couple of The Echoes live in the states, Johnny Dryden lives in Spain but most live in England. I try to see as many of them as I can when I get back there.

Derek was very complimentary about Dusty, Douggie.

He said that whatever else was going on in her life, she was ALWAYS the consummate professional in her work.

I'm sure I heard him on one of the radio progs after Dusty died.. and he was telling about a gig in Ireland right in the middle of the countryside, when it was raining the dressing room was a barn..and the footwear was wellies...

It was a very cute story.

I think that the last pic graphically shows how very physically and mentally exhausting it must be to maintain the 'person' everyone expects you to be.

She looks shattered.

Derek was speaking on a TV prog..could have been Definitely Dusty made after she died and he showed the original acetate of Goin Back and talked about how up beat she was regarding the concerts..back to her old self. They were then cancelled and she of course went back to the USA and he never saw her again.

Poor Dusty really looks exhausted after the show and too tired to even eat. She obviously gave it her all during the performance.

Great photos thanks for posting.
