We may have discussed this before, but let's do it again....
IF Dusty had not passed away, what do you think she would be doing (career-wise) today?
Looking at her contempories from the 60's - very few are still recording and performing. Of course there are exceptions - Lulu, Shirley, Martha Reeves, Diana Ross etc - many are'semi-retired', and a good proportion have drifted away..Julie Rogers, Kathy Kirby, Sandie Shaw for example.
I think if Dusty was still with us - SHE WOULD STILL BE RECORDING, and making tv appearances occasionally.
At 69 she would most probably be called 'The grand dame of pop' (at least by THE SUN!)
What would she be recording?....I think most probably more 'standards', 'show tunes' and hopefully 'covers' - something she was ALWAYS good at. If Shirley can do it at 70+, and Eartha at 81...'our' Dusty certainly could!
What do you think?

Brian.

I'm not sure she would have been recording, but we have seen lots of nostalgic programmes of late where artists like Lulu talk about the 60's etc--I think Dusty would have been asked had she still been with us.

Also she would have made a good DJ --we have Lulu sitting in for Steve W and Sandie S sat in for Brian Matthews on SOTS--Dusty would have been a good choice.

We can but dream.

Good topic Brian,

I think Dusty may well have recorded at least one album of standards.

Rod Stewart recorded at least two successful albums of American Standards in his own style, and I'm sure that Dusty could have done the same.

I don't think she would be touring or anything, but maybe the odd appearance on TV would not be out of the question...She would probably have had some cosmetic surgery to give her confidence about her looks as well.

In her own time, I hope that she would have opened her 'Cat Hotel' and lived contentedly in that lovely house called 'Little Hill' near Henley.

Call me old fashioned but... I'd like to think that she would have retired from the music business and settled down to a more stable, calm and peaceful life with someone who loved her for just being Mary, the real person behind the 'Dusty' image, and be living out the rest of her days with a life away from all the pressures of showbiz - plus of course a few puddy tats!!

The one album that got away was one for jazz standards - she would have been up there with the best as a jazz singer as well as a "rock and soul" singer.

But whilst I would have liked to have seen her record such an album in the late sixties/early seventies, I could imagine she might have been directed to do such a recording in the noughties if her voice was up to it.

In reality though I reckon she would have been stuck at home gardening

Interesting topic Brian. I have to agree that Dusty probably would have done an album of standards but Dusty also loved to keep up with what is current on the music scene. I also think she might be doing some acting. I really don't see Dusty being in full retirement.

BTW, Petula Clark is still going strong at 76.

Wow, good topic, but not entirely certain of course. I may think she would have kept a foot in the music scene and business, making an appearance as Carole says, but like what Sparkie said and feel it would be nice for Dusty to have gained some peace and calm and retired about 80-90 percent with someone who was good for her she cared for enjoyed her kitty cats. Like the idea of the "Cat Hotel" too. Meow.

Guess Who?
