After what can only be described as a marathon stint at Caesars Palace Las Vegas.. Celinne Dion is hitting the highway with her 'Taking Chances' tour...

I'm wondering:

What d'ya think of Celine and her music?

Would you go and see her show?

I'm sorry, but I think she's DREADFUL...can't stand her nauseating voice.

I don't like her either..she comes across as a little too sincere.

Her voice I know appeals to lots of folk, but it has no emotion or expression in it for me. Sorry.

I like Celine but in small doses, I can't listen to a whole cd at once.

I was given her latest cd for Xmas but still haven't listened to it all, however I did buy her concert dvd on the strength of enjoying her "Audince With" I thought she came across as a nice person - whether she is or not I don't know.

I'm the same with Mariah Carey & Whitney Houston, I can't listen to a whole cd but I like some of their songs.

Dusty I can listen to anytime, anyplace, anywhere and she never bugs me like those vocal gymnasts do! Sometimes the way they sing is so un-natural -don't you think?

I seems as if Celine is not liked in the UK, which I don't completely understand. I think she is very talented and it bothers me a bit to see and read about all the hatred towards her in the UK.

She recently had a special on TV her in the US, which was excellent, very entertaining.

She was an extremely hot ticket and a very difficult one to get while she performed in Vegas. She is now touring the US. Her tickets are going for outrageous prices, the cheap seats START at around $200. However, I do have to admit that it bothers me that her tickets are selling for such outrageous prices. I am wondering who will buy a $600 ticket. I will not pay that price to see anyone! She grew up very poor, it seems she forgot what it is like not to be a millionaire.

I don't hate Celine, Marty...

In fact I admit to liking some of her first singles and I got two of her cds..

..and I'm probably the only person left in the World who STILL likes 'My Heart Will Go On' from Titanic.

But, and its a big BUT...there is something about Celine Dion that doesn't appeal to me..I don't know if its her 'look'..her personality(such that it is) or what...but she seems abit naff and OTT for my taste.

So thats CR's opinion of CD. xx

I can see where you're coming from with Celine, Carole - I sometimes think it's her accent and the way she comes across and also her facial expressions.

Some people you just take to right away while others you like them - BUT!!!

Dusty was such an easy person to like, Madeline is the same.

I used to feel the same way about Kathy Kirby, she could sing but there was something awkward about her movements. However, I did see her open for Tom Jones in the 60's and she was great!

I think she's a good singer, just not a favourite of mine..
Hey, how cool is it that she has the initials 'CD' though! I girl I used to work with had the initials 'LP', I was dead jealous

Carole I didn't say that you personally hate Celine, but I have heard it from others.

Her Christmas CD is my favorite of the CDs that I have of hers. One of my favorite tracks on the CD is "O Holy Night", which I think is fantastic! As far as I am concerned you need a powerful singer to pull it off properly. She also does a great version of Felix Navidad, but I like all the tracks on the CD.

As far as her personality, I am starting to think she is a bit full of herself and fame has gone to her heard at bit. Asking 600 bucks for a ticket to see her!!!! She certainly doesn't need the money and it's not for charity. Well I might give into it if I won the big lottery, LOL!

Marty

PS. Speaking of powerful singers, I bet Dusty would have done an outstanding version of O Holy Night, but again I think she would have done a fantastic version of just about anything! :)

Quoting Sara's post about being jealous of the initials LP, do you think Vic Damone and Val Doonican would dare to have personalised luggage

Also regarding ticket prices for Celine Dion, I remember reading a few years back that Cher asked for the prices to be kept low as she wanted her fans to be able to afford to see her shows.

$600 is ridiculous, I'd want a holiday for that! However nobody is forced to pay those prices, if people refused there would be no show.

Poor Dusty was forced to cancel her tour in 1979 and her tickets were nowhere near that price, that was such an insult to our top singer!

Marty the O2 Arena is part of what was known as The Millenium Dome.

It has stood empty for years, and was costing more in security than it was worth.

However, it is now an Entertainment complex which contains The Arena, Cinemas, Cafes and at the moment the Tutankhamon Exhibition.

Its sponsored by the O2 mobile phone company.

It'll probably be used for some events when the Olympics go to London in 2012.

Heres a pic of it at dusk...Looks like something that landed from Outer Space!

Carole R xx

Sorry completely off-topic, other than the fact that Janie is going to see CD at the O2 Arena.

There are singers who have a unique quality of tone and interpretation and range (I mean of tone not octaves).

There are others that have one or other of the above.

There are other singers who can perform fantastic vocal gymnastics but have neither of the above.

CD is certainly in the third camp and furthernore has a somewhat "shouting" style. As well as that I don't like her music.

Sorry

Well the consensus of opinion is definitely NOT in Ms. Dion's favour, by the looks of things.

Maybe Janie will give us an informed opinion after she's seen her 'live' on Thurday night.

I will Marty, no question . I haven't got brilliant seats, indeed I'll need a telescope to see her if I'm honest, but even so they were £70......only £30 less for similar seats than at the Streisand concert here in July last year. I must admit I wanted to see her but not at astronomic cost so this view will suffice .

Thanks for telling me about the 02, Carole R.; thought it was very interesting. I am assuming it must be on the Thames? It looks very lovely in your dusk picture. It does look like it just landed from outer space; beam me up Scottie! LOL!

Totally agree Rep. With regard to Whitney Houston, can only take so much of her. I loathe "I Will Always Love You" as she slides the note at the end instead of hitting it properly. I adore "One Moment In Time" which was recorded for the 88 Olympics I think, so bought double CD just for that song.

I don't mind Celine Dion. She was great in the Divas special especially when she was "bouncing off" Aretha Franklin. She was great with her song at the 96 Atlanta Olympics - have yet to find that on CD.
