OK it was suggested we chose another two songs to 'fight it out'...so let's go uptempo.
Although I LOVE 'Little by little' it doesn't hold a candle to the masterpiece that is 'In the middle of nowhere'. In 1965 after 3 ballads in a row it was just the thing to bring Dusty crashing into the charts again. The nearest thing Britain ever got to producing a 'Motown sound'...at the time.
Brian.

| Always been a favourite of mine too, when I first heard it I thought it was the loudest, wildest record Dusty had made and I loved it - wonder why she didn't like it - it's brilliant, a real feel good song! |

A good pair to compare, Brian.
Very similar, but I think 'Middle Of Nowhere'is a more substantial song.
I find 'Little By Little' a slightly weak song.
So its gotta be MON for me!..

I think Middle Of Nowhere is a better all rounder than LBL. It also has class backing in Madeline, Doris Troy and Alan Price on piano I believe.

Well between the two choices.. Oh Brian! This is easy. No brainer for me. Middle of Nowhere. Such a Jazzy performance too. Btw, have you viewed the version with band and 3 back-up singers on You Tube? Ya gotta. Love it.

Dusty said at the time Little By Little was a potboiler for what was to come next - the biggie, her number one smash!
Little By Little is still a good record though, very catchy. |

Going with Little by Little. When you listen to both songs, Middle of Nowhere sounds more dated than Little by Little IMO. I also loved her hand movements on Little by Little (two hands together moving in an upward motion). I've seen her use different motions, but clearly remember her doing this on Ed Sullivan.

I remember those hand movements too, does anyone remember her movements on I Will Come To You ,when the drum beat came in? |

I'm going to say Little By Little as it is one of my favs and I know most people will vote for ITMOK.
I just think her voice sounds even better on LBL. But both songs come from the same DNA IMO.
BTW whilst we are talking about Dusty's movements on stage - what about the bum wiggle during Dancing In The Street at the NME concert in 64? or 65? At that moment she was the sexiest woman on the planet. |

Definitely 'Little By Little' I wasn't that keen on 'Middle Of Nowhere' when I first heard it, I don't know why. But I love it now. I think it was when I saw her singing it live on a DVD I really started to like it But Little By Little was one of the ones I used to play over and over when I got my first Dusty CD. I just love it

Okay... If I'm honest, when I first heard 'In The Middle Of Nowhere' I thought it sounded a bit, um, cheesy!

LOL!... God only knows how she even walked in that ultra tight skirt and four inch heels... As well as hardly being able to see anything.

I was never a huge fan of "In the Middle of Nowhere" - still aren't really. I think it stems from the fact that it came after "You're Hurtin' Kinda Love" which was not a huge hit and I suppose I was hoping for something to "knock me for six" and it didn't quite do it.
But it was a big hit so that was OK - "Little by Little" for me then! |

This is really hard for me as "The Echoes" did both recordings. The piano on both tracks was played by Jimmy O'Brien. Sorry not Alan Price!!! LOL. Douggie.....

Alan Price did not play on In The Middle Of Nowhere?
Accoring to the press at that time it was reported that he was so nervous on the session he faulted three times. If I had been asked on a pop trivia quiz who played piano on this Alan Price would have been my answer!!!! |
