I'll just say that red hair coloring is sold so I'm sure women do want to be red heads. I have given it some thought myself, but tried on a red wig once and didn't think it was flattering on me.
However, we are wondering away from my original question about Dusty, although an interesting comment was made about Cilla.

Dusty may have been a red head in the early 60's for awhile when with the Springfields, but she certainly was blonde when she made it big, unlike Cilla and Lulu!

| It was before my time but I thought The Springfields were the biggest selling act in England? Although she may have been blonde by then? |

I've seen some redheaded pictures of Dusty when she was with the Springfields Noidea.
Since I am not British, I cannot answer your question if they were once the biggest selling act in GB.

She looked fine red, blonde or grey but she went out blonde. Whatever she liked best is OK by me. But OK she looked coolest and most iconic as a blonde back in the 1960s. I like her more relaxed 'It Begins Again' look too.
Ever since we met you've had a hold on me. It's crazy but it's true... |

I hope this doesn't sound heartless, because I certainly don't mean it to sound that way. From all I read, Mary O'Brien wanted to go out blonde as Dusty Springfield with a big specular funeral.
Bless you Dusty!

Yes, it seems like Mary learned to love Dusty and all she'd achieved. She went out blonde and proud and show stopping with her greatest hits blasting out. There's a book coming out that says that her funeral was not in accordance with her wishes but it sounds right to me. A friend of mine who lives in Henley went to it and told me it was just fantastic just like Dusty.

Noidea you really have some strange and disturbing thoughts.
Yes members of my family were born with red hair but if they didn't like it they could have had it dyed - they didn't!!!!
Also some famous movie stars were red heads.
Also I think perhaps the word you are looking for is irrelevant - no?

I don't have a dictionary on me but no I think the word is irreverent in this context but I'm no prof of English so who knows (or cares for that matter).
I don't intend to disturb you with what I think was a fairly normal observation - I know Anne of Green Gables did not want to be a redhead and neither does a colleague who I work alongside (she is a redhead). I don;t know many redheads but it remains true that I do not know of anyone who wanted to be a redhead Some women do dye their hair red but generally not for long imo. |
