A couple of later 60's singles which are closely matched in my book

What's your favourite out of these two?

It's that voice...just listen to the voice

Definitely 'How Can I Be Sure'.
'I'll Try Anything' has never been a favourite of mine, but 'How Can I Be Sure' is Somethin' special There's more feeling in it.
I'll Try Anything is more lightweight.

Difficult to choose. How Can I Be Sure has started to infiltrate my ears, butI think I prefer I'll Try Anything if that makes any sense.

I'll go with I'll Try Anything not necessarily on its own merit but because it's a song that for years I knew only by name - I never heard IYA on the radio in the 60s hearing it for the first time just after Dusty's death when a local music store put a Best of... CD on their listening post (This was in my pre-internet days!). Dusty's How Can I Be Sure didn't blip my radar either but I was at least familiar with the song itself through the Rascals' original. Also I personally do regret that after launching her solo career with IOWTBWY Dusty seemed to grow disinterested in recording upbeat songs - IYA is a relatively late instance of Dusty showcasing her "rocky" side.

For me, I think it would have to be 'I'll Try Anything'.

I'm having some difficulty comparing these two songs, even if its only to decide which I like best.

For me.. its like deciding between apples and oranges. They are so completely different.

In my mind, I pair up 'Ill Try Anything' with 'Am I The Same Girl?' and 'How Can I Be Sure?' with 'If You Go Away.'

I only realised that my mind pairs up some songs, when trying to decide between Johns chosen songs.

However, If for the purposes of answering Johns question I MUST decide, between those two... I'll go for 'I'll Try Anything'...to get you..

Funny how we hear songs in a different way.

I would never dream of pairing Carole's suggestions for any similarity as they sound poles apart to me.

But in fact I did not choose these two for sounding similar so much as being of the same genre (if that makes sense!?) ie not ballads not soul or motown....just straight late 60's pop.

It's that voice...just listen to the voice

And how can you Trying Anythingers resist:

"Whenever I
Whenever I am away from you
I wanna die
Cos you know I wanna stay with you"

and

"Whether
Whether or not we're together
Together we'll see it much better
I love you, I'll love you forever
You know where I can be found"

I think they're like Apples and Oranges too.
I'd put 'How Can I Be Sure' with 'Losing You' or 'IJDKWTDWM'
And I'd put 'I'll Try Anything' with 'Middle Of Nowhere' or 'Stay Awhile'

Oh Sara. We could end this thread if you and your pals would just give in.

I've been burned
Whenever I've followed all the rules
So I've learned
That playing it fair is just for fools
I'm fighting and win or lose
I'm not minding my P's and Q's, and

I'll try anything to get you
I'll do anything I can
I'll try anything to get you
I'll cheat and I'll lie
Try 'til I die
'Til I make you my man

But I agree;

"Whether
Whether or not we're together
Together we'll see it much better
I love you, I'll love you forever
You know where I can be found"

Oh! Wow! Why can't we all just choose both (but 'I'll Try Anything' is the best in the end. It's got a beat and it's got heat!)
