A nice fun narrative which I found on a blog by Holly Hughes. She hears the country music aspect of Memphis (I can't unless I try hard). She takes it for granted that Dusty is talking to a man but I don't nowadays.
'You've been crying. Your face is a mess. Come in Baby, you can dry your tears on my dress.'
I've tried these lines out in home made pop quizzes. Is Dusty singing to a man or woman? You give everybody a point whatever their answer is. It's just an excuse to play this great track!
Thanks for that clip Memphis.Funnily enough I was just listening to 'Dusty in Memphis'on my MP3 player before coming onto the forum. I think thats one of Dusty's best recordings, backed by the superb Memphis musicians.Personally I couldn't care less whether shes singing about a man or a woman.Just love hearing Dusty's divine voice.!!
That's yet another correct answer! I think this track is great, and really quite erm...sensual if I might say...
I was going to play 'Memphis' all the way through in my car today but I pressed the wrong button and 'A Very Fine Love' came on instead which was very fine by me. I had a very happy ride.
I love this song. Very provocative and yet delicate. Dusty sings it so well... Thanks Memphis - for making us think about it again and the great Album it is on "DIM". Bravo.
