About time too! The Flirtations were most probably the best UK girl group in the sixties, and despite many excellent releases never had a major chart hit here. I saw them several times in the later half of the sixties and early seventies - they were a class act and gave the American girls a run for their money. There WAS a 'best of' a few years back on cd on Marginal Records...but it turned out to be a bootleg. I didn't care though ..it was excellent quality.
The name is familiar, but I would have thought that they were a Motown based Group.
The best UK girl group from the Sixties Brian?...Thats a pretty sweeping statement.
What about the Paper Dolls?..

Carole - The Paper Dolls might have had a hit, and were ok, but The Flirtations KNEW how to do it properly! I think a lot of people thought they were a Motown group - they were that GOOD
The girls were Americans who based their career in the UK (I had to look this up). I'll be buying the CD and watching out for them. It looks like they're still performing.
There's no comparison between The Flirtations & The Paper Dolls, the Flirtations were a class act, shame I never got to see them but I did see The Paper Dolls - I am sure they opened for Scott Walker.
The Paper Dolls were ok but not in Flirtations league.
No they were not a Motown act but signed to the Deram label (a Decca subsidiary) which was the same label Cat Stevens was originally signed to.
