I wouldn't know about other years Marty I haven't been before, I didn't ask people what they thought either they just happened to tell me of their disappointment ya know...(one of these people had been year in year out!) I cannot compare.. There were quite a few people struggling to watch, we literally couldn't get in the room, there was no space to be had,, even in the crowd.. I'm not a "New Yorker" and I'm just getting over chest injuries, so yes Id much rather go **** myself.... LOL

Gill I am so sorry to hear of your disappointments, I would have been furious if I couldn't get in the room, never mind disappointed! Last year I plopped myself at the foot of the stage by Jonathan's feet (keyboard). It seemed no matter where I stood before someone would say they couldn't see with me standing there. I could understand if I was tall, as that ALWAYS seems to happen to me, but I'm only 5'1" tall! I do think you would have had a better time if you got in the room. Is Madeline the only one you heard singing? Katy and Simon both put on an excellent show. It also was lovely to meet Pat Rhodes.

Thanks Janie but there were two men on stage. Hope I'm not being PC incorrect, as I don't mean to be.One of the men was a black man and the other was Caucasian.

Can someone please tell me who is the other man on stage with Simon?
Marty
I can't recall the chap's name Marty but he is an auctioneer (albeit property ) by profession! He did well .
I'm having some photos e-mailed to me later today for posting so apologies all, for the delay - however, Speedbird has given a wonderful taster.......maybe others will post in the meantime?

And so to some photos of our trip on Monday to the marker in Henley. I'll post others of the actual event along with my 'report' tomorrow, I hope. Apologies for the delay but a girl has to work to keep the wolves from the door and the food on the table .
It was a beautiful sun shiney day on Monday. Sandy, Bev and I met for coffee, sorted the DSN's flowers at St Mary's, went for a walk along the Thames and rounded the day off with a lovely meal at the Angel pub on the river. Gorgeous.
The floral tributes were absolutely stunning. Many, many thanks to both Sandy and Bev for helping with the DSN's flowers and the photos and for the company on that day. I'm sorry to have missed Patrick and his wife - I think I must have almost passed you Patrick on the way into Henley as you were making your way out, split second timing .
Marty, the man you are referring to was Mac Kissoon from Mac and Katy Kissoon (spelling???? I'll need to check that )
Here we go then........

I caught Bev on my way out.... Bev I told you Everton would win!! I couldn't get anywhere near to take any photos for you, a little disappointing I know but I hate crowded places. I didn't know what to expected but I was told by people (I spoke to) that the day wasn't as good as it had been in previous years. For such a huge British top female artist of her time and a 10 year anniversary this year I was expecting much more. Gill x
It was lovely to meet you Gill and have a chat Yeah OK you won, hope you go on and win the cup now... I'd rather that than the other lot
I have to say I agree with what Gill has said - I thought it wasn't as good as some other years (which is why I went outside to the main bar to watch the football!) and thought the organisation was a bit all over the place but I do appreciate that Simon and everyone involved works hard to put it all together and some of what happened was in no way anything to do with them and I do thank them all for making this event possible every year
It's a shame Tamsin had to depart so early as I thought she should have done more; Madeline was wonderful as per the norm as was Simon, but - and I'm sure I'll get slapped wrists for this - I thought Katy put on a pretty poor show to be honest compared to last year. The other chap, Mac Kissoon, got on me nerves and from what I could actually hear of his vocals (which wasn't much just what seemed liked a lot of high pitched screeching) I couldn't understand anyway!
I feel the venue is too small for the amount of people that come along given the areas needed to be clear for fire/health & safety reasons with many people unable to get inside to actually "see" the performances, the facilities are poor (let's not get into blocked WCs! ) and don't get me started on the so called "staff" who were, one assumes, paid to "serve customers" but didn't seem to be doing much of it - especially when it came to serving all the men before the women even though, as I found out, some women had been standing at the bar for over 10 minutes with nobody else waiting and were still ignored every time a man arrived at the bar - it was absolutely disgraceful!!
I thought, and this is just my personal opinion, that the day was a disappointment and not the celebration and commemoration of Dusty that it should and could have been
I shall now go and get me coat and never darken your doorstep again!

So that's our Sparkie, huh? Nice to finally put a face to the posts!
Aw, the pix are great Janie, thanks so much for posting them! Such a beautiful resting place for The Great Lady. You know, I honestly think Dusty is watching & smiling down every year when she sees the fans visit Dusty Day & the gravesite. I just know in my heart that she can now truly see how much she was loved, & still is, with fans like you guys it's hard NOT to notice :)
"I don't know what it is that makes me love you so/I only know I never wanna let you go/You started something/Oh can't you see/That ever since we met you had a hold on me/It happens to be true/I only wanna be with you" |

I'll have to Google that one Marty - I do know the names from way back but truthfully I can't off remember/recall off the top of my head any of their material. I know I'd instantly recognise the sound if I were to hear it though. Not very helpful, ay?

Interesting, sounds like Dusty Day had some mixed reviews this year. I heard some say it was the best ever and others say it wasn't good at all.
A larger venue might be nice, I do recall that we were all packed in a bit like herrings last year. I also heard not everyone requesting tickets this year got them this year.
Katy looked like she was having a blast on stage from the pictures this year. I'm a bit upset to read that some of you were disappointed in her performance. What did she sing? I was beginning to wonder because up to recent posts above, no one even mentioned her. I just can't picture her doing a bad performances. Did she win anything this year at the auction? I can remember the cheers to let Katy have the "Spooky" dress last year!
As for the restrooms...If you google Finnegans Wake, reviewers give awful reviews, saying that the pipes are dirty and the restrooms are dirty and overflowing with raw sewage. Thought that was discusting. Last year I was a bit apprehensive to enter the ladies room, but I found it to be very old and in need of some updating, it was clean and in working order.
I'm still typing in my sleep and always seem to get myself in trouble when I do so please lets not get into any typos, hopefully I'm making sense!

The above is a utube link taken by a fan that was at Dusty Day 09. I personally love it.
I think the only reason you didn't like it was that you were not in the same room. I can watch the link over and over again. I just watched it three times in a row so far!

Whilst this is fresh in my mind.....I'm not sure of a Dusty connection per se Marty, but Mac is currently working with Simon on the latest James Last tour.
