[Gill x[/quote]It was lovely to meet you Gill and have a chat

I have to say I agree with what Gill has said - I thought it wasn't as good as some other years (which is why I went outside to the main bar to watch the football!) and thought the organization was a bit all over the place but I do appreciate that Simon and everyone involved works hard to put it all together and some of what happened was in no way anything to do with them and I do thank them all for making this event possible every year

I feel the venue is too small for the amount of people that come along given the areas needed to be clear for fire/health & safety reasons with many people unable to get inside to actually "see" the performances...

Bev it was lovely to meet you too....

I caught Simon talking to himself ya know, he rushed past me saying right I'm going to have to move this on... he seemed to be doing most of the work, and everyone wanted a piece of him the poor guy..

I agree Bev getting served at the bar was a complete nightmare! I tried to order food from the menu & gave this up as a bad job, they had ran out of most things & it was only 1:30. The ladies toilets well lets not go there! LOL...
Yes a bigger & better venue with some decent lighting... would have made all the difference, I didn't realize until I looked at Marks pictures that most people were sat on the floor!

One of the songs Katy sang was "All I see is you" which is one of my favorites.. (I'm not commenting on the vocals because its something I do myself and I know how hard it is to get up on a stage and sing...) I personally would have liked to have heard more & the performances to have gone on a little longer.. even though I didn't get to see a great deal.

Mac and Simon know eachother as they are both backing singers for the James Last orchestra, Mac is in the UK as they are about to go on tour, I'm unsure if Lavinia Rogers or Lyn Cornell still tour with JL though

beautiful pics of Henley and the surrounds, gorgeous flowers too, couldn't make it myself to Henley but I was there in spirit, Barbara and I thoroughly enjoyed Dusty day and all the performances, with singing live it has to be done ad-hoc not like in a studio where constant retakes can be done, with being served it seemed to be quicker to walk into the front bar area where there wasn't many people, I'm glad the venue was air-conditioned, think of all that sweat there woulda been!

I believe a fair amount was raised for the Royal Marsden which is what it's all about, I'm sure Simon will inform us of the final figure

Message from Sandy who still insists she hasn't got time to become a member of the DSN! Too pc'd out at work she tells us, so I guess we can understand . Here goes:

'Janie, please could you pass on my congratulations to Simon and all those who gave of their free time to make this year's Dusty Day a really great event. Granted, the venue was packed and the sink in the ladies loo did leak. However, those who contributed to everyone's enjoyment on the day:

Simon Bell
Madeline Bell
Katy Setterfield
Mac Kissoon
Julie Felix
Tamsin Carroll
Ian Shaw
Jonathan Cohen
The Auctioner Gentleman
The Raffle Ticket Sellers [Jen and I am sorry, I don't know the gentleman's name who accompanied Jen with the sales of the tickets - shame on me, as I sat next to him at Katy's pre-Las Vegas party - just must be having a senior moment here and cannot remember his name - nice guy though]
The gentleman on the door [another senior moment because I've been introduced to him as well]
Pat Rhodes and the BME for the donations for the auction
The Sound/Lighting Guy
The audience

[and I am sure there were others I was not aware were involved 'behind the scenes' as it were]

A day to be remembered with much fondness. There was a time in the main room, when everyone was listening and either singing and/or clapping to the songs and/or the music, and it felt a very special place to be - amidst friends. Such a warm atmosphere with all those who loved Dusty being there to remember her and the songs she brought to the hearing world.

Particularly, for me, when Ian Shaw sang, I believe the whole room was mesmerised...what a performance - and Simon, singing 'You Are My Child' - one of my favourite Dusty songs.

Well done everyone.....wish it had gone on longer and that we could have had more of Tamsin's time...a very talented young lady and the 'alternate' Nancy in the Oliver show. Best wishes to her.

Janie, Kissoon is correct spelling. Here is a little about him, the brother of Katie Kissoon, a singing duo from the 70s if anyone can remember:

Mac and Katie Kissoon is a male / female vocal duo consisting of brother and sister Mac Kissoon and Katie Kissoon, born in Trinidad and raised in England, UK. They are best known for the 1970s hit singles they recorded as a duo.

"Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep" ("Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep" had originally been a hit in Europe as performed by Middle of the Road)
"Sugar Candy Kisses"
"Don't Do It Baby"
"Like a Butterfly"
"The Two Of Us".
"Your Kiss is Sweet".

It does take a lot to get this sort of event under way, despite what Simon kept saying that it was not a lot really......I think you did a wonderful job Simon and I hope your time with James Last goes well and you get some moments to relax whilst on tour.

Here's to the next DD Event......thanks everyone.

Does anyone know a way that we could get Madeline back on the small screen? Would be great to see her singing again to TV audiences?

Sandy'

I've had a long week so I've been away but it was great to come back and see all the photos and read the reviews. I still can't believe how lucky I was to be there.

Thanks for the Henley photos, they look lovely. And those flowers are so beautiful!!!

Janie, the poster seems to have settled in her new home, it looks rather arty, the black and white poster looks so cool on the pale lilac wall. Actually, my hubby says he really likes it and works well in the lounge. Yay!

Great pictures! Just feeling a bit green! Looks like Simon and Katy had a great time singing together. She personally told me that last year she was so nervous to be actually singing with DUSTY'S back up singers.

She did say it a couple of times that she couldn't believe they were doing backup vocals for her. She seemed so excited

As a response to the comments regarding Katy's performance, I do take my hat off to the girl She had got home from a concert about 12-13 hours before she was on stage again, in London. She had a gig the night before on the Suffolk coast, and another one on the South coast the night before. And before that, she had just come back from Germany. Honestly, i do not know where she gets her energy from. So to be fair, she must have been so tired, but credit to her, nobody saw any sign of it. She can't have slept much but she was still her usual self. With all this in mind, she would have still won the One and Only hands down

Some people didn't get raffle tickets cos they ran out... they should have limited the numbers bought by each person so everybody could have taken part!!!!

Someone tried to claim the picture that I bought in the auction. I was rather upset But luckily I managed to save it and guarded it until I was ready to leave

Was it the framed blue RAH-poster/picture, Speedbird?
Then it was me. I had to take the unframed with me, but by mistake i took the wrong one with me.
I'm sorry

Jack

oh no no, it wasn't you, Jack. Don't you worry about it :) When Everybody was leaving and I still had to wait for my lift, I went to have another look of my baby, and found someone else's name on it. So I got all worried and said, I think that's mine though. Someone asked: are you sure? And I'm like: how could you not remember what you bought in the very first auction of your life? ;) ;) so there were long minutes of Pat Rhodes and a guy trying to find the paperwork. Luckily it was all still there and Pat pointed straight at my name. It was me who had had to write it down because it was easier than spelling it out. Whooooooooooo. Great relief. Later someone said that the same person tried to claim something that hadn't even been in the auction. Never mind, no hard feelings, I was just getting rather upset at the thought of losing something that meant so much to me :)

Janie,

...for completeness, my raffle-mate was Simon's friend Clive. He is every bit as nice as you say!!
