I did French and Spanish at secondary school, and went on to take Spanish for my G.C.S.E. I was rather pleased to have gotten a B grade for my oral exam. It has been a few years since I've used it properly though!, but I could hold a convo with someone and negotiate what I would like/need.

Greetings 'hop pickers'.
We've had rather a nice day down here in the 'Garden of England'
Everyone got into the swing of things, and we happily picked and picked. We won't go into great detail on Pen's outburst - just to say when it was suggested she tried picking sloe's for gin, she shamed herself by shouting -"Slow-gin!....I WANT quick-gin" ..."I NEED a quick gin" We pretended she wasn't with our party
More to follow......

After pickin and packin' thirty three sacks of hops..

...I'm all hopped out..

This is not my idea of fun.
In fact I'd rather wash my feet in the goldfish bowl.

What's next on the Summer Agenda?

Please don't say its fly-fishing on the Rochdale Canal

There are plenty of 'fish to fly' there..(Ancient Chinese Proverb)

I've decided fly fishing in the Rochdale canal could be too exciting for some members of our party, at least for the time being.
I did think about re-inacting 'Summer Holiday' with a bus and going to Greece, but with the rising cost of fuel - that's out, so I think we'll opt for a 'green' choice instead. WALKING TOURS! - that's green isn't it?
So - we have a choice - please vote by 5pm tomorrow (7th) on the following options :-
1. Walking 'Offa's Dyke' between Wales and England (approx 60 miles)
2. Walking 'Hadrians Wall' oop north (between 80 and 110 miles)
3. Walking the 'Thames Path' from Coate in Gloucestershire through to London (somewhere near where Eastenders is filmed) - 125 miles (by mainly flat)
4. Lands End to John 'O Groats (allow at least a month) - THE walk on the wild side, but only for the fit and healthy who don't suffer corns easily, and can write postcards at regular intervals.
5. None of the above.

Hmmm, some choices there Toots. I think my vote would have to be No. 3- 'The Thames Path'. We could take a de-tour to the set and ya never know, may be luck enough to get 'walk on' parts as extras!. Given the diversity of our group, I think we would fit right in.

Well, the votes are in and here are the results :-
ONE vote for the Thames Path
ONE spoilt paper, due to the fact the voter didn't know whether they were on their ass or their elbow
ONE vote for number 5...with reservations.
I declare you have lost your deposit...so MY decision is final.
We will go to the Lake District...and search for Trek (this didn't appear as an option, but EU rules state we can change our mind - and not tell you!)...SO...
We group at 10am tomorrow (9th) at Crewe station for a short trip to Oxenholme where we will meet up with a guide who used to be 'mountain rescue' but he slipped up, and now earns much more
Jerseys will be available with the slogan 'TREKSEARCH 2008'

Well we trekked and we.. trekked..

Did we find Trek?...No, we didn't.

After walking up hill and down dale in search of Trek, our search was proving fruitless, until we found a tiny little Tea Shoppe in the middle of Troutbeck...
Now, I'm not sure whether Trek had been in there, but the two chocolate biscuits and the half mug of coffee left on one of the gingham covered tables, plus the EXIT door swinging open as if someone had departed in haste, made me suspicious that Trek had been there...And on clocking us, had made a speedy exit down the back passage...

Any Road up, we couldn't hang about as we had to catch the Last Train To Clarksville...Lets hope the sun is shining there..

Although Pen bu**erd off home, I did a quick u-turn and went back to investigate.
As well as the half eaten biscuits there was also a 'golf-scoring card' and some ruffed up turf. This PROVES beyond doubt Trek was there, especially as the card had huge numbers and tearstains on it. Any course up, the day was interesting despite the low number attendance.
I think we need more excitement for the next trip though.

Thank the Lord I missed them...just got out of the tea shop in time

Its been a week for Wellies.

I've been visiting Waterfalls and Walking in the rain.

I've also done a survey of tea rooms and cafes in the Lakes testing the coffee, scones and everything chocolate and giving points out of ten for facilities for hanging wet macs.

The cafe at Skelwith Bridge is the winner for providing mac hooks and the best coffee, and chocolate muffins.

Murder mystery?......what a good idea

I've been busy trying to find out more about this 'theme'...and it looks as if we've hit the jackpot...for next weekend on Bodmin Moor there is such an event.
From Friday evening to Sunday afternoon at Bleakmoor House at Ingra Tor a special 'goosebumps' mystery is on. It involves golf clubs, blood oranges, an estate agent, two nuns, a make-up artist and a defrocked Bishop. I've booked us in to the 'west wing'. More details will follow.

Bodmin has a checkered history in itself! On a serious note though people, for those who have nerves of steel a trip to Bodmin Jail/Gaol is highly recommended!

...anyhoot, looking forward to getting my teeth stuck into a good ole murder!..well not literally obviously...bones are a bit hard on my gnashers!....must remember to pack some Fixodent just in case! Hehe!.

Oh btw Toots, I might be able to loan the Mystery Machine from my mate Velma if you're interested?

'Mystery machine? ..what is THAT?....it's a mystery to me already
I've just checked the weather forecast for 'the moor' this weekend, and although most of Britain will bask in glorious sunshine, Bodmin Moor will be shrouded by mist, which should add to the ambience of the occasion. Personally I'm watching the butler.
BTW - magnifying glasses will be available to hire for the weekend @ £5...so if you've ever wished 'something' was bigger than what it really is - now is your chance

Imported binoculars into Devon are charged £8 per day..or £10 for the weekend, so the 'glass' looks a better bet.
The 'mystery' apparantly is built around a clotted-cream tea with poison scones...it could be the jam?...it could be the butter?..it could be a nun with a Tesco carrier?...jolly exciting isn't it?

This won't be a mystery if Toots tells us much more about it...will it??

I was just in the middle of packing my drainpipe, my rope, my chandelier, my candlestick..and one or two other murderous objects.. when I read that the 'Victim' is gonna be poisoned!..

PEN... Playing blue murder.
