The Beatles wrote loads of songs..They sang most of them, themselves, apart from writing some, which other Merseybeat folk recorded
...But quite a few have been covered by other singers.
My question is:
Which Beatles songs do you think were sung better by other singers?..

Great topic, Carole!
In 1964 the Supremes made an LP called "A bit of Liverpool". They sang songs of the Mersey Beat bands. There is a song on it called "A hard day's night" from the famous Beatles album. I would say that the Supremes did it a little bit better than the fathers of the song.
Luv, Sgt. Pepper

Yes she made a fantastic version of that Mark
I prefer You've Got To Hide Your Love Away by The Silkie rather than The Beatles but usually I prefer their own versions. |

I agree on The Supremes...much better. 'And I love him' by Esther Phillips is far superior too. And....don't forget the DEFINITIVE version of 'She's leaving home' by Madeline Bell. Just three off the top of my head..there were many more.

Carole! I don't know how you can ask that question! As much as I love The Supremes and respect other singers, nobody does it better than the fab four.

I also agree with 'Something' by Shirley Bassey.
Although George Harrison made a good job of it, Shirley Bassey brought it to life.
One of the best songs I ever heard her sing.

The Carpenters versions of 'Help!' and 'Ticket To Ride' I dunno if I can say they are better cos they turned them into completely different songs. But I love them most And I also love Madeline Bell's 'You Won't See Me'..

Peter Sellers.
Otis Redding "Daytripper"
Junior Parker "Taxman"
Al Green "I Wanna Hold Your Hand"
The best covers? Dusty on the Burt Bacharach show - she really sings the crap out of the Beatles
Worst?
There is an album by George Martin that might be the worst ever. It has Celine Dion (Here, There and Everywhere), Jim Carrey (I Am the Walrus) and Robin Williams butchering Beatle songs. It's so bad it's good. Sean Connery's "In My Life" has to be heard to be believed. |

Not quite "The Beatles",but Brian Ferry's version of John Lennon's "Jealous Guy" is quite good.
Tom Jones and Elvis do alright on "Hey Jude".

I know this is going off the thread but I agree with the above and want to add that Shirley's version of For All We Know is even better than Something, two of the best tracks she's recorded and she has recorded many great songs. I even like her old Philips material. |

| I agree that the George Martin album is terrible, with the exception of Jeff Beck doing an instrumental cover of "A day in the life". I don't think it's better than the Beatles, but I don't think I've ever heard a guitar sound quite so emotional. |
