Hello everyone!

Can you remember the great tunes of the famous singer and composer Roy Orbison?

What do you think? Do you like him and his music?

I think he was one of the best composers and of course one of the best singers.
He had a special voice which was very interesting and heartwarming.

Luv, Sgt. Pepper

We've discussed him before...but that was many moons ago.
For me, he's one of the greatest, individual singers there ever was.
You could ALWAYS tell a Roy Orbison record from the first 5 seconds.
A unique singer who's sadly missed.

Brian.

When Roy Orbison died in 1988 it shocked me in the way that I imagine Elvis' death impacted people a decade earlier. I love Roy Orbison's diversity, or 'lack of label' in his sound. He seemed to transcend every aspect of the music world, from the way he recorded to the sounds he created, and even in the diversity of his friends in the music industry. He seemed to be in a category of his own.

As I mentioned elsewhere, Roy was just immortalized as a 'beetle' this past week:

Roy Orbison, the man who sang "Pretty Woman," has received an unusual posthumous honor. Calling it a "a token of admiration for Roy’s body of work," a scientist at Arizona State named a newly-described species of
Indian whirligig beetle Orectochilus orbisonorum after the famous singer.
The painting at right, featuring nine whirligigs, was presented to Orbison's widow, Barbara, during a Roy Orbison Tribute concert on January 25th in Tempe. According to the release, upon receipt of the painting and naming, Orbison said, “I have never seen an honor like that."
We, on the other hand, have. Thanks to Mental Floss, here are nine other species of creatures named after the rich and famous. Anyone know any other examples?

The new species will be completely described by Quentin Wheeler and colleagues in an upcoming issue of Zootaxa, a leading journal of taxonomy. It appears to be defined by its clear front surfaces, which allow some of its "guts" to be seen. There was no word on if or why this bug was particularly appropriate for the rock legend.

I always loved that wonderful "Blue Bayou" next to his famous "Pretty Woman".
Do you remember his early record "Love hurts" that became famous with the Everly Brothers and at least with Nazareth? With that voice you will believe Roy taht love hurts!

Until he died in 1988 he had to manage a lot of personal dramas. His first wife and I think two of his sons died because of a fire. What a tragic life!

Yes, and now he is a beetle...

Absolutely LOVE Roy Orbison.
I've got a 3CD set called "The Golden Decade 60-69" that I play quite often.

Fave songs:
In Dreams
Running Scared
Falling
Ride Away
Oh Pretty Woman
Borne On The Wind
... and of course,Crying.

Also liked his work with Bono/The Edge on "Mystery Girl" and of course "The Travelling Wilburys".

When I was a teenager in the 60's,I had only enough money to buy one single with my pocket money. The choice was between "In Dreams" and "Mecca" by Gene Pitney. I chose Mecca but have since got "In Dreams" on CD.

PS Absolutely love the duet of Crying with K D Lang
