We've had a discussion on Celine Dion - how about our thoughts on Mariah Carey?
She was a guest on American Idol a couple of weeks ago giving tips on how to sing to the contestants! (It was a good job there were no mirrors )
My opinion is :- she THINKS she can sing...she's all 'vocal gymnastics' and is totally over-rated. On top of this she's a prima donna of the highest order. Thousands will disagree, but if you really want vocal gymnastics Whitney can do them better...but she can still SING a decent song. Mariah...no no no

I liked her earliest stuff when I was younger, I had her Music Box album on cassette
But yeah she sucks. She shrieks rather than sings, and her latest stuff of what I've heard is awful rap crap.
I think Mariah, Whitney and Celine are all really similar.

Like Sara I thought she was alright to begin with ,then, did she marry a bigwig at Sony, or something?
She has made quite a few comebacks I find her vain and pretentious...with what seems like a shallow character to boot...and she is singularly responsible for all the musical gymnasts with ridiculous hand movements we've seen since.
Nah.... A big thumbs down for MC from CR.

Your last sentence is what I've been saying all along. I can take them but in very small doses.
Maria made a good Unplugged album where she sang a Jackson's song but I've never played it for years. |

She don't do stairs..I ask you!!!
I bought Music Box when it first came out and then I saw her perform and that put me right off...so I can play her music but cannot watch her.

I can't stand Mariah Carey's voice, or her attitude. I caught part of her set at the Live 8 concert in 2005 and remember her moaning to the audience about not having a mic stand or a bottle of water...
Not a fan of Celine or Whitney either.

As most people I liked Mariah when she first hit the scene with songs such as 'Vision of love', etc; she was immediately dubbed 'the White Whitney' for the vocal similarities, but a few years later her ego seems to have taken her over with all the "I don't do stairs" type of nonsense......and I went off her, though I still have her early stuff I don't really have the inclination to play it no more!

I preferred Mariah Carey's early stuff as well. I do think she is very talented, but for the most part, just not my style of singing.
Between Mariah Carey and Celine Dion, I'll take Celine over Mariah in a New York Minute!

I don't enjoy Mariah or Celine or Whitney very much. Whitney's the best of the three, though, I guess.
