Neil Diamond is back on the airwaves with his lovely new single 'Pretty amazing Grace', and new album.
I must admit I have NOTHING in my collection by Neil, but I like him! His voice is very distinctive and he's very easy to listen to.
What do others think?

Brian.

His album Hot August Night (vol. 1) is one of the best live-albums ever!

Never been a great big fan of Neil Diamond, although like Dave, many of his songs have squeezed their way into my musical memory bank.

I've never bought any of his music, and I wouldn't dream of buying a ticket for his forthcoming Tour.

He wrote 'I'm a Believer' and the Monkees had a smash hit with it.

He is a very talented songwriter, but for some reason his stage persona doesn't appeal to me.

He's just kinda 'there'...and thats it.

Carole R xx

My fave of his is called 'Hello Again'..Its luvly jubbly.

Carole you really do come out with some classic lines "You Wouldn't Dream Of Buying A Ticket For Neil Diamond" !

Why ever not? I have seen Neil twice in concert, the first time At the Nec Birmingham and he was sensational. He does the whole show and once he's onstage - he's onstage. He doesn't swan on & off the way a certain Welsh diva does and he doesn't waste time with idle chit-chat when he talks it's because he has something to say or to introduce his band - some of them have worked with Neil for 15 years so he must be good to work for.

He does have a good if quite shy personality, I remember at the end of his concert he went to the edge of the stage and put one foot on the stair to leave and the audience screamed "NO", he went down another step and they screamed "NO" even louder so he said "Alright" and went back on for a few more songs.

After the NEC concert 12,000 people gave him a standing ovation so he must have done something right. I thought his stage presence was fine. What was particularly moving if he sang a song the audience particularly enjoyed they drummed their feet, and if you can imagine that sound going right around an arena it was like a train - it was truly an incredible night.

The second time was at the News Arena in Manchester, the show was good but I didn't like the venue.

I was first introduced to Neil's music back in the 60's and since then I have bought every release. His early material was great and it's good to see him going back to his roots although he made some great albums along the way.

I agree that Hot August Night is one of the best Live albums ever, the drummer who starts the beat on the reprise of I Am....I Said is absolutely brilliant.

Well, my mom absolutely loved Neil Diamond, so I heard it on the record player growing up! I adore the rousings songs Brother Loves Travelin' Show and Holly Holy... as well as his other hits. Holly Holy is a sort of excellent climatic song... He is a shy person when he's interviewed in front of a lot of people. I witnessed this just in the last 2 weeks while he made an appearance on the NBC's Today Show with Matt Lauer. He was in New York plugging his album. As mentioned above he did sing Pretty Amazing Grace I enjoyed that. Neil Diamond and I share the same b-day, woo hoo! Anyway, I like his music because of the sentamentality of it... reminds me of my Mom and I loved her and miss her. She was a kind and gentle soul and funny as hell! Incidently, I read that Neil paid one of the largest divorce settlements in history.

Guess Who?

In 1984 my boyfriend took me to a place called the "Capital Centre" in Landover, Maryland to see Neil Diamond in concerts. It was one of the best concerts I have been too. I remember the concert being very energetic and uplifting. His fans seem to really care for him and they were on their feet having a good time. My old boyfriend bought me a T-shirt from the concert - I still have it. It is black with gold lettering and states 'Neil Diamond World Tour 1984'.

Guess Who?

I miss my mum too Pandy, she passed away in 2006. I took her to see Neil Diamond in concert in Manchester. I miss her laugh too, she used to laugh at something on tv and when she tried to tell you about it she couldn't stop laughing long enough to tell you.
Mum's are very special people, aren't they?

Mum's are very special...I miss my Mum who I lost in January.

I have some Neil Diamond CD's in my collection and some tapes too plus a tape of The Jazz Singer.
I like his early recordings and he is a very good song writer.

Hi Trek, As we discussed at Dusty Day, I miss my mom too. Losing our Mom/Mum's isn't easy to get over for any of us. My mom passed on January 6,2008.

I only have one of Neil Diamond's CDs, but agree he is very good. I didn't know that he has a single out, hope it reaches high up on the charts.

Marty

I'm just trying to think of another "classic line" for Mr. Reputation.

Have no fear, one will be coming along very soon.

Carole R ..Who isn't overly keen on Neil Diamond, but respects the opinions of those who are.xx

It's not a single Marty but an album called Home Before Dark, from what I've heard on the radio (it was album of the week) it's really good and I am awaiting my copy.

Have an early night Carole and think up some more, by the way Neil isn't too keen on you coming along to one of his concerts anyway, said you are a disruptive influence on fellow fans!!!!!

My Mum always thought Neil Diamond had the most sexy eyes . The first thing I thought of when I saw his dates at the O2 was how much I would have loved to take her to see him - she sadly passed away 9 years ago yesterday so not an option .

I take it you won't be tempted to invite Carole to accompany you to a Neil Diamond concert then Karl?
