Ah rats, I'm at a hospital library right now. What are the vile comments? Or would I be happier not knowing. Ah well, I've heard enough crap coming from Carole Pope's mouth and reading her book. (That reminds me: mental note, must check up on the headliner performance at this year's Windsor Pride festival, lest I accidentally find myself at Ms. Pope's concert again. )

I think everybody was celebrating and having great fun - it's like a party. It looks like the fans that have been with Dusty since the '60s have reservations and the others think Dusty is fine in this video. I ended up thinking Dusty is great in this because she entertains the crowd so well and she's having a great over the top time. The outfit is but it's an eye catching stage number and so what anyway. I thought the banter was funny (and affectionate) and I like the way Dusty doesn't rise to the bait!

I liked Dusty's performance and song. She did display a good sense of humour. Carole Pope's comment about being 'on top' appeared to bug the classy and private Dusty, but she appeared to deal w/ it.

Like Dusty, I'll ignore the comment.
Thanks for the vid, Amy...
Just when we think we've seen everything, something else turns up!..
Dusty looks like she was going thru a pink, punk, period, at that time. Carole R xx |

Am I wrong, or is this the only time Dusty has performed (live/mimed) a song from White Heat? I think that and maybe Cameo got the least attention in her appearances of the time.
As for "the comment," I wasn't really offended as I thought I would be. It's not like Carole said "Dusty wants to ****" or anything, and Dusty handled it well and comedically.
However, I do think Anne Murray would take Carole in that proposed fight ;-) |

I thought she was so insecure, Carole Pope was so dominant and Dusty couldn't handle it. Dusty was so not "out" and I found it rather offensive. This must have been an all time low for her.

PS she didn't really know how to pitch the song.

I just watched the clip again, is it just me, or do you think Dusty appeared to be a bit shocked by it all? She really did handle it well.

For those who think Dusty would be opposed to racy humor...need I bring up how she opened her RAH concert?
Yes, I know they're different situations, but as I said before, what Carole said wasn't "Dusty (blank)s girls every night!" or anything. Just a risque joke is what I saw it as. But Dusty didn't always shun the risque, I think.
(Now when Carole DID tell all many years later...that's a different story)
EDIT: And not only do I think Anne could take Carole, but she can do it by, well, ever hear the phrase "killing them with kindness"? Well Anne would do that too, as I hear she was very kind to Dusty in times of need, and is very honorable towards her memory to this day. God bless her, and the Pet Shop Boys, and Pat, Simon, and the people who really believed in her, as opposed the times when Dusty was maybe looking in the wrong places for acceptance. |

Now that said, I still wonder if this is the only time Dusty sang a White Heat song outside of the album? (I don't have Complete DS handy right now) I can't recall anything from that album being used in a concert, or even performed/mimed on TV. A lot of people consider WH to be the dark horse of Dusty's discography, I guess so did she?
I want to say she used the Cameo track list very little too. |
