Where do I start... ,I must explain that my hobby is singing, I love music, I sing a variety of songs, I orig started singing Anne Murrays (sure you have all heard of Anne) "you needed me" the words to this song meant a lot at the time. After this I sung various songs by different artists untill one evening approx 12 months ago.. I happened upon the song "I only want to be with you" which I knew from my Bay City Roller days, I thought it would be a bit of fun and its a song most people are familiar with and can sing along to so Hey Ho.. this was the start of things to come.
I am not a prof singer just pretty darn good at Dusty. Since then I have learnt quite a few tracks, the latest one I am working on is "How can I be sure" although I am struggling to find a backing track.. I cant go out now without someone requesting a Dusty song. I had no idea Dusty was so popular.I'm now learning about the lady behind the songs.
I was never a Dusty fan in my youth, I wasnt old enough to appreciate 60's music although I did watch the Cilla show,(I so wanted to be Cilla but my mum said I couldnt put a tune together), I became a New Romantic and regular attender of the Warehouse in Leeds to watch Mark Almond perform. I caught up with Dusty in the 1990's when she performed with the Pet Shop Boys. Your Dusty day was held on my birthday this year, I feel quite honoured and I would have attended if I had known. I shall have to make it next year.. sounds like fun. I asked my 13 year old daughter last week if she had heard of Dusty and she said of course you sing her songs all the time so its rubbing off on the younger generation, it must be doing some good huh.

Gill I see you're from Wakefield, Dusty performed there several times in the 60's from what I've read in the past.
Hope you enjoy the website. |

Great story so far Gill- hey, maybe you could give us a quick rendition of some Dusty songs at Dusty Day? . Will go down a treat I'm sure!
Fab to know that you're daughter is interested in Dusty- and yes you're right, it's good that Dusty is filtering down the generations!
Anyway, hope you have a great time here. Lots of info, clips, pics, games and just general randomness that lurks here is sure to keep you glued to the screen for HOURS!!!

It may have been the Dusty Day that brought me here, its was quite strange, I was out round town and met up with some people "I didnt know" who said their family had been to a Dusty reunion? it meant nothing to me at the time and we only spoke because I had sung a Dusty song for the first time in my life. Since then we have become friends.
I sing Dusty's songs because I am in my comfort zone, I can also sing some of Cher's and Duffys hits, I can alter my vocal range but cannot get as low as cher. she's unique. Lynn Anderson and Anne Murray also feature, I have learnt not to sing outside my zone. To give you an example I sing "Its in his kiss" which I knew as a Cher song, but find that Dusty covered this before Cher? put me right if I am wrong? "Yeah" get a few white wines down me and who knows....Times that are happy are times that are few ....my interpetation of Dusty's songs is guarenteed put a smile on someones face im sure.

I'm not aware of Dusty singing "It's In His Kiss" unless it was in her stage act sometimes
To my knowledge Betty Everett recorded it long before Cher. |

oh I love the Betty Everett version,, very shoop shoop...shoop shoop you got me going now.. 1964. The song I downloaded was listed as Dusty Springfield but when I compare it to the Betty Everett version there is very little difference so thanks for putting the record straight... If you would like to listen to it let me know.

Hi Gill, am I understanding you correctly that you downloaded "It's In His Kiss" and it was listed as Dusty Springfield? To the best of my knowledge she never did record the song and as Karl mentioned perhaps she did do it on stage. It's certainly the type of song that she might have sung. Yes I would love to hear it!
