You've probably seen others use smilies before in e-mail messages or other bulletin board posts. Smilies are keyboard characters used to convey an emotion, such as a smile or a frown . This bulletin board automatically converts certain text to a graphical representation when it is inserted between brackets []. Here are the smilies that are currently supported by Dusty Springfield Community:

These Forums use cookies to store the following information: the last time you logged in, your Username and your Encrypted Password. These cookies are stored on your hard drive. Cookies are not used to track your movement or perform any function other than to enhance your use of these forums. If you have not enabled cookies in your browser, many of these time-saving features will not work properly. Editing your posts
You may edit or delete your own posts at any time. Just go to the topic where the post to be edited or deleted is located and you will see a edit or delete icon on the line that begins "posted on..." Click on this icon to edit or delete the post. No one else can edit your post, except for the forum Moderator or the forum Administrator. A note is generated at the bottom of each edited post displaying when and by whom the post was edited.

Editing Your Profile
You may easily change any information stored in your registration profile by using the "profile" link located near the top of each page. Simply identify yourself by typing your Username and Password and all of your profile information will appear on screen. You may edit any information (except your Username).

Attaching Files
For security reasons, you may not attach files to any posts. However, you may cut and paste text into your post.

Searching For Specific Posts
You may search for specific posts based on a word or words found in the posts, user name, date, and particular forum(s). Simply click on the "search" link at the top of the page

You may attach signatures to the end of your posts when you post either a New Topic or Reply. Your signature is editable by clicking on "profile" at the top of any forum page and entering your Username and Password.

NOTE: HTML can't be used in Signatures, which means that pictures attached to signatures will be removed by the administrators without warning as this would make the whole forum immensly slower.

Should you want to share music files you can do so using the site

You must be logged in to see this link.

The instructions are as follows:

1. Go to You must be logged in to see this link.

2. You can choose to register or not - if you do there are additional features that you may find useful.

3. When you are ready to send a file select 'Send a file'.

4. Indicate Recipient email address (I have always sent them to my own e-mail address).

5. Click on 'Browse' and select file to send from your hard disk and open.

6. Click on 'Send it'.

7. When the uploading process is finished, copy the link - you will also be advised by e-mail of the detail so you may wish to copy the link from your e-mail rather than the yousendit screen.

8. Paste the link into your message on this site, and post.

9. The link lasts for a period of 7 days or 100 downloads.

Please always be mindful of any copyright issues - I refer you to the rules of this site with regard to your responsibilites in this respect.

YouTube instructions

YouTube You must be logged in to see this link.

If you want to display a YouTube video clip, rather than just the link in a post, these are the instructions:

1. On the YouTube page 'copy' the URL that is displayed, normally to the right of the screen.

2. When you come back on to the DSN, if you are replying to a topic, select 'Reply To Topic' Option rather than the 'Quick Reply'.

3. Paste the link that you have just copied from YouTube.

4. Highlight the link.

5. Click on the YouTube icon on the 'Format' section (you will find it in the line on the screen that allows you to underline, make bold, italics etc).

6. When you post the response, with a bit of luck and a following wind the video clip startup page will appear!

NB If you do not select the 'Reply To Topic' option in 2. above, don't worry, simply click on the icon that allows you to edit your post and take it from there.

How do I attach pictures to a post?

1. Log onto You must be logged in to see this link.

2. You will have to register, nothing too offputting there.

3. Once you've registered, you will see a section headed 'Upload Images and Video'. Click the 'Browse' box and then select from your own files one which you want to upload (I don't know the best file type - all I can say to you is the ones I uploaded were jpeg's [.jpg] file) and they don't seem to take up too much space/time loading!. Click the 'Upload it' box.

4.Once the item(s) have uploaded and you're wanting to get them to our forum or wherever, tick the 'check' box underneath the item(s) and then click on the box that says 'Generate HTML & IMG code box.'

5. This will give you a list of things that look like gobblegook (to me anyway!) but there is a recommendation for what might be appropriate for your specific use.

6. Highlight the one you want (I had to try a couple of times because you don't necessarily know right from the start what is really best! I tend to use the 'Message board' option) and copy it i.e. Edit>Copy.

7. Having signed into the DSN go to the appropriate thread and 'Paste' into the Quick Reply portion. Add your message, whatever.

8. I would suggest you then press 'Preview' as then you will get the opportunity to see if it looks alright or not before finally 'Submit Reply'! It looks to me as if sometimes you just get the 'address' so other people can click on, or the actual image comes up. I fiddled with my selection until I picked an option where the image came out!! Not very technical I'm afraid but it worked.

How To Communicate With Other Members

There are three MAIN options here via the site EXCLUDING the chat room facility.

Firstly, if its not a particularly private/personal matter and you think other members would be interested, you can of course post on the main forum within the relevant Forum Heading.

The other two MAIN methods via the site are e-mail and private message (PM)(some members can be contacted via AOL/MSN/Yahoo message as well).

To communicate in any of these ways the simplest method is to click on the members name anywhere on the site where their name is underlined. Alternatively, go to the heading 'Members', top right hand side of the forum front page, click, and then work through the screens to find the member's name and then click on it!

Once in the member's profile, you will see a section headed 'My Contact Info' on the left hand side of the screen and you can choose accordingly .

Be mindful that not all members allow e-mails via the site and for those that do, there is a restriction on the content size. If you want to warble away, as I do (), PM's allow just that .

Some members may be willing to exchange their personal e-mail address of course, but that is clearly down to the individuals concerned.

I hope the above info is helpful.
